| This is CHUFFY. She is a 10 year old white Bengal tigress, and weighs about 520 pounds. White
tigers are extremely rare in the wild. The white tiger is not a true
albino - it simply has less dark colored pigment in its coat. The light color is the result of a
recessive gene, sometimes known as a "chinchilla mutation." Stripings can range from black to
brown to grey to all white. Not all white tigers have blue eyes like Chuffy. The skin of all
tigers is bluish with stripes that go clear through to the skin.
Chuffy is very vocal like our other tigers. Chuffy, like Nyla, goes with
us as part of our outreach program to educate young people about how serious
we must be about protecting all tigers'environments.
